War Boy

It is 1953 and a lone boy stands with his cotton satchel slung over his shoulders. As he looks into the distance around him grow the fronds of a green and hopeful future. Behind him the Singer Sewing Machine Factory workers from Clydebank are waiting. During the Blitz the factory was bombed and in the boy’s house the windows rattled and a fern in plant pot fell to the floor . . .
