About

“For me a stained glass window is a transparent partition between my heart and the heart of the world.”

— Marc Chagall

IT IS ALL ABOUT THE LIGHT

The colour, texture and the shifting interplay of light is something unique to glass, it is a deeply enigmatic medium and holding up a sheet of delicate hand-made coloured glass to the light begins to reveal its quiet possibilities. It often elicits a sense of wonder.

I enjoy experimentation, and using historical glass techniques I work to create both traditional pieces as well as contemporary pieces through cutting, painting, applying texture and working with the organic stratifications caused by breaking and hammer-work. The work is influenced by the way in which shards of light and dark, pigments and form are defined by prints, paintwork, cuts and angles. I draw inspiration from history, as well as from contemporary artists who are pushing the conventional of glass imagery.

An important aspect of the work involves recycling old and damaged glass panels. I dismantle them and I either create entirely new designs around the initial piece or using hand picked elements that ‘speak to me’ I incorporate them into a new work, resulting in unique product that blends the old with the new. This process not only preserves the historical narrative embedded within each fragment, but also allows the weaving of new stories giving these valuable materials a second life.

I aim to celebrate both their heritage and their potential for transformation.
